Behind the Scenes: Designing RiskReady’s Learning Experience
At RiskReady, we believe resilience isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a skillset. And building that skillset starts with learning that’s not only informative, but intuitive, engaging, and yes, even a little bit fun. As the founder of RiskReady, I’ve spent years crafting e-learning experiences that bridge the gap between standards and real-world action. This blog takes you behind the scenes of how we do it — and why it matters.
🎯 Learning with Purpose
Every RiskReady course begins with a clear intent: to help learners build confidence in resilience, business continuity, crisis management, and information security. Our current suite focuses on introductory-level training, designed to demystify complex ideas and give learners a strong foundation.
We ask ourselves: What does the learner need to understand, feel, and do after this course? That question shapes everything — from the structure to the tone.
🧠 Instructional Design that Works
Our design process blends adult learning principles with technical standards like SCORM and xAPI. But we don’t just build courses that tick compliance boxes — we build ones that actually connect.
Here’s how:
- Modular structure: Bite-sized lessons that learners can dip into at their own pace.
- Scenario-based learning: Realistic examples that make abstract concepts relatable.
- Micro-assessments: Quick quizzes that reinforce learning and spark reflection.
- Visual storytelling: Diagrams, timelines, and infographics that simplify complexity.
And most importantly…
😄 Scripts That Feel Human
We’re proud of our scripting style — it’s what sets RiskReady apart. Our courses speak to learners like real people. The tone is approachable, professional, and often sprinkled with a touch of humour. We believe learning should feel like a conversation, not a lecture.
You won’t find stale corporate jargon or robotic narration here. Instead, you’ll hear things like:
“Let’s be honest — nobody wakes up excited to read ISO clauses. But stick with us, and we’ll make it painless.”
That’s the RiskReady voice: clear, warm, and just cheeky enough to keep learners engaged.
🔍 From Standards to Stories
Even introductory courses can feel overwhelming if they’re too formal or too dense. That’s why we focus on narrative clarity. We take the essence of standards like ISO 22301 and ISO 27001 and translate them into everyday language.
For example, instead of saying “Clause 8.4.2.3 requires the team to be competent to assess the impact against pre-defined thresholds that justify initiation of a formal response,” we say:
“As soon as we mention crises, some people say to us “We don’t need any training, we deal with crises all the time”; when what they really mean is that they routinely have to manage minor disruptions. However, other people immediately conjure up images of a Hollywood-style disaster with mass casualties.”
It’s not just easier to understand — it’s easier to remember.
🛠️ Tools That Learners Can Use
RiskReady courses are built to be compatible with most learning management systems, thanks to SCORM and xAPI formatting. But we go beyond compatibility — we focus on usability.
Our interface is clean and intuitive. Our feedback is constructive, not punitive. And we include downloadable templates, checklists, and toolkits that learners can apply immediately.
Learning doesn’t end when the course does — it continues in the workplace.
🌍 Designed for Real People
Our learners include SME owners, public and private sector planners, and resilience professionals at all stages of their careers. That diversity shapes our design.
We build for accessibility, offer multiple formats, and avoid assumptions about prior knowledge. Whether you’re brand new to business continuity or brushing up on crisis response, RiskReady meets you where you are.
🔗 Learning That Connects
RiskReady isn’t just a course provider — we’re a learning partner. Our blog, resources, and community engagement are designed to keep learners connected, curious, and confident.
We believe resilience is a journey — and we’re here for every step.
