This course has been developed to help Loggists have a better understanding of the role. The course will enable log-keepers to be better equipped to maintain an effective log during an incident. This course is also useful for Incident Managers to give them a better understanding of the role of a Loggist. It will also explain the nature of the support that the Loggist should provide.
What is a loggist?
A loggist is responsible for accurately recording key decisions, actions, and events during an emergency or crisis. Their role ensures a clear and unbiased record of events, supporting transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making.
Loggists work in emergency response teams, crisis management centres, and business continuity groups. Their documentation helps organisations track actions during a response, review incidents after an event and improve future responses.
Why is loggist training important?
Loggist training teaches essential skills in structured notetaking, situational awareness, and accurate record-keeping. These skills are crucial in emergency situations where decisions must be documented in real time.
Proper logging helps organisations maintain legal compliance, improve decision-making, and conduct effective post-incident reviews. Without trained loggists, important details can be lost, leading to confusion, poor response coordination, and legal risks.
